About the Client
For more than 100 years, the San Francisco Travel Association has worked on behalf of its members to promote San Francisco as the destination of choice for conventions and leisure travel. The Association is an outgrowth of the San Francisco Convention and Tourist League, a non-profit, local business association founded in 1909 to reclaim the City’s position as a world-class destination in the wake of the devastating 1906 earthquake and fire.

Project in a Nutshell:
Revitalize an aging web portal and integrate with Salesforce CRM
MyProgrammer began working with San Francisco Travel (SFT) in 2016 to redesign their legacy Partner Portal, an aging application relied upon by thousands of hotels, restaurants and other partners throughout the city to manage convention and travel opportunities. SFT had also started migrating their CRM over to Salesforce, so extensive data sharing and syncing would be required between the new Partner Portal and Salesforce.
The current portal was clunky and slow, and too much time and effort were being spent to maintain it. After developing a detailed plan with SFT to revamp the existing portal, and create a sync engine between the portal and Salesforce, work began on the rewrite in late 2016.
Goals and Objectives
Quickly deliver an improved user experience to partners and effectively integrate with Salesforce.Thousands of San Francisco Travel partners were being negatively impacted by a slow, clunky legacy portal that did not work properly on tablets and smartphones, and this was impacting adoption and satisfaction rates. They needed a quick solution that would also be able to effectively send data between the new portal and the recently rolled out Salesforce implementation.
Unique Challenges
Redesign existing portal while complex Salesforce roll-out was in progress. We started the planning and preliminary design of the new Partner Portal before the final design of the large, enterprise-wide Salesforce migration was completed. To address this challenge, we designed a flexible sync engine (and auditing module) to catch suspense items that might occur between the the two systems.
The Results
The current site is modern, responsive, scalable and efficiently syncs data with Salesforce. The new Partner Portal is 100% responsive and scalable, providing a vastly improved user experience to thousands of partners throughout the city of San Francisco. Under the hood, the legacy portal was completely revamped and architected, using the latest ASP.NET core and SQL Server technologies.
